INSTRUCTOR BIO

About the Instructor

Susan Morrissey, Pressed Botanical Artist

Many of us have had memorable moments of inspiration, experiences that relentlessly tug on our creative thoughts. Then, if we pursue and if the stars align, we fall in love with a passion for artistic expression that we long to share with others. My inspiration came while weeding my garden. Finding beauty in a couple of dandelions, I stuck them in a book to press. Weeks later, when I checked on them, I found they had ruined the pages of my book but held onto their beauty. And I was hooked.

Today, my passion continues as I practice and develop my craft. Most materials I use come from my own garden, the gardens of generous neighbors, fields, and roadsides. Because pressed botanicals are fragile, I protect my work with UV-filtering glass, color enhancement techniques, and papers and glues that won't cause deterioration.
